When I was in Burgundy last month tasting the 2009s for my big report in late January 2011, I spent one day as marraine (godmother) of the 2010 Trophée des Jeunes Talents there. Renowned French wine writer Jacques Dupont of Le Point was parrain . This annual competition is designed to identify and reward particularly talented winemakers under 40 throughout greater Burgundy on the basis of competitive blind tastings. Accordingly, there are pre-judgings in Chablis and the Mâconnais. Jacques and I turned up for the Côte d'Or blind tasting in the village hall in Chorey-lès-Beaune, being served a subset of all the wines...
