It was taken at Ch Pichon Lalande by Caroline Matthews of me and Sylvie Cazes, president of the Union des Grands Crus - and recently made director of Pichon Lalande overseeing a major building programme on behalf of owners the Rouzauds of Louis Roederer. My excuse for this is to highlight the fact that none of the three most important St-Estèphes – Calon-Ségur, Cos d'Estournel and Montrose – belongs to the Union des Grands Crus, which makes the St-Estèphe section of the UGC northern Médoc tasting a little meagre.
