Richard, who occasionally writes for Sainsbury’s magazine, well and truly proves his independence below by putting the boot into many of that UK supermarket's cheaper wines. I cruelly concentrated on the more expensive bottles at this tasting, leaving the rest to him. As you can see below, as well as the usual haul of anodyne bottlings there are quite a few good buys (search for GV signifying good value) – particularly among the sweet and fortified wines where there are some absolute steals.
