The era of flying winemakers may be on the wane now that virtually every winemaker, wherever they are on the planet, knows how to make technically perfect wine, but the proportion of wine producers who have personal experience of making wine in different parts of the world has been increasing enormously. It sometimes seems as though any young wannabe winemaker worth his or her salt sees a bit of overseas experience as a prerequisite for a career in wine. Even in France, where vignerons traditionally thought that having French blood flowing through their veins was qualification enough...
