ASDA – creeping up on the rest

Believe it or not, the wine range at the decidedly downmarket ASDA supermarket chain, now owned by Walmart, has been revitalised by a Francophile Master of Wine. Philippa Carr MW admits that she is personally Eurocentric, even Francocentric, but she has assembled quite a collection of bargain bottles from around the world.

One more amazing thing: many of the labels are decidedly glamorous; those such as the one illustrated here look as though they contain wine costing at least twice as much as they actually do. This makes many ASDA wines look infinitely better than their counterparts at Sainsbury’s, and...
