Beaujolais – mapped and sipped

Maps, marvellous maps. What an achievement: specialist cartographer Sigales have been working with Inter Beaujolais to map the soils of every single vineyard and lieu-dit in the 10 Beaujolais crus. This one of Morgon hints at the incredible level of detail. The maps themselves have taken three years to produce – the Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages maps are not yet complete – but they are based on work that began in 2009 in Moulin-à-Vent and has involved the digging of 6,000 bore holes and 600 test trenches across 12,500 ha (30,890 acres).
