We're being treated to a wonderful weather in this primeurs week, as you can read in my daily reports on Purple pages (see Bordeaux 2010 - a guide to our coverage).

Yesterday was the 74th birthday of John Salvi MW, a member of our large British tasting contingent and it was celebrated over breakfast at Le Pin, as you will see below. From the left are, variously, Jeannie Cho Lee MW, who was tasting with us yesterday, Caroline Matthews of Bordeaux Uncorked, who was driving me, young George Thienpont and his mother Fiona and father Jacques (pictured) who treated us to just-bottled Le Pin 2008 as well as the 2010, and various anglophone wine scribes.

At the end of this short film you can see the dramatic new ultra-modern wine cellar being built for Le Pin. (Eat your heart out, Cheval Blanc.)

Note the piles of sandy gravel in the foreground that have been excavated to make way for it. Pomerol is by no means all clay!
