California fires and the smoke effect

Flying in to San Francisco last Wednesday was a trial. Haze from Northern California's serious fires, many of them in Mendocino County, had so affected visibility that my flight had to be delayed. When we got up to the Napa Valley on Friday the atmosphere was still extremely hazy. Instead of that razor-sharp golden light was a smudgy skyline and distinctly acrid air. By Sunday the atmosphere in Napa Valley had cleared up considerably but below are observations from several sources on the possible effect of all this on those precious vines.
