No, you have not accidentally logged on to the wrong kind of website! In early December 2008 a few privileged journalists were treated not only to a comprehensive selection of wines from the two steepest vineyards in Europe, but also to a climb of the site called mons calidus by the old Romans, who certainly knew what they were talking about.

Located above the small town of Bremm, the Calmont vineyard (pictured above and below) in the Mosel Valley reaches dizzy inclines of up to 68˚ and consequently does get very hot (calidus) in the summer. Individual plots...
