Not so United Canada

‘The people have spoken and the Ontario wine industry appears to have listened.’ So begins a report in yesterday’s Canadian press by Monique Beech on proposed changes to the controversial labelling of the wines that dominate the volume sales in Canada.

These are blends of mainly inexpensive imports with some Canadian wine (and occasionally water) which have so far been labeled ‘Cellared in Canada’. They typically look as though they are 100% Canadian products and until very recently were even displayed in Canada’s monopoly liquor stores as though they were Canadian.
