The Peloponnese, shown in camouflage-green on the map (courtesy of All About Greek Wine), is a fantastic area for wine – plenty of high-quality autochthonous varieties both red and white and an extremely diverse landscape for the 22,000 or so hectares of vines – from low down and close to the sea in the south around Monemvasia to right up at 1,100 metres in the north near Patras via the high plateau of Mantinia in the centre.
