The pace of investigation into fake wines seems to be hotting up with Bill Koch relentlessly pursuing all that he thinks have sold him fraudulent bottles. See the latest Wine Spectator report.
I visited Laurent Ponsot (pictured) last night to taste his 2008s, having written at length here last July about his pursuit of fake Ponsot Clos St Denis 1945. But below in a short video clip is what he told me last night about a Clos de la Roche 2005 he encountered recently that he believes was also a counterfeit. Yikes! Can we clean up the fine wine marketplace a bit, please, folks?
But it's not all bad. Earlier in the day, Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti reported that a representative of Bill Koch had brought a large consignment of DRC wines to the Domaine to be checked. According to Aubert, they were all completely authentic. Phew.
