La Sibilla Falanghina 2012 Campi Flegrei

Brilliant straw. Quite ripe and with a nice spicy layer and hint of breadcrumb. Creamy – oak? Quite serious treatment. Full bodied, good length and pretty viscous. (WS) 12%

Bambinuto Falanghina 2012 IGP Campania

Brilliant straw yellow. Very low key with a sweet layer of yellow fruit. Quite ripe and soft, but with acidity turning up on a pink grapefruit finish. (WS) 13%

Malvasia Bianca di Lecce. Sweet but holding back on the nose. Attractive bitter sweet yellow and citrus fruit on the palate, but could be a little bit more persistent. (WS)

Negroamaro vinified as a white. Palish yellow, stands out immediately from the rest. Orange blossom nose. Viscous feel. Fruit seems a little locked in and perhaps a little short, but the idea is not bad. (WS) 12.5%

Moscato. Straw yellow. Intense sweet and immediate, perfumed Moscato nose, like a sweet wine. Not entirely clean. Perfumed palate followed by quite tart acidity. Loses focus on the finish. Ends dry and a little bitter. (WS) 12.5%

60% Catarratto, 40% Inzolia. Straw yellow. Soft and a little closed. Soft, creamy fruit with a zippy finish. A little neutral, perhaps from high yielding vines, but sound. (WS) 12.5%

Catarratto. Pale straw. Very catchy, not unlike Sauvignon Blanc, so must be the selected yeast. A streak of greenness. Not very typical, but technically sound, and, I can imagine, consumer friendly. Not too challenging. (WS) 12.5%

Straw yellow. A little tight, perhaps just reductive. And the soft creamy fruit just beginning to open up. Good varietal character on the nose, and lovely fresh citrus fruit palate with a chewy finish. (WS) 13%

Catarratto. Quite deep straw, almost like it is oxidised. Very ripe and almost rich yellow fruit and then oxidised (two samples tasted), followed by very spritzy CO2 attack. (WS) 13.5%

60% Carricante, 40% Catarratto. Brilliant straw yellow. Appealing soft, round candied peel nose, like a late harvest and dangerously close to oxidation. A little hollow on the mid palate, but lively on the finish, where the fruit turns up. (WS) 13%

Brilliant straw. Talcum, perfumed nose. With aeration a touch of the Fiano smokiness appears. Pretty lemony acidity but the whole is a little unfocused. (WS) 13%

Quite deep straw yellow. Rich, sweet yellow fruit jelly. Flint stone notes on the palate. Rich fruit palate with a bitter lemon finish with smoky notes. Quite true to the variety, if richer than usual and like a late harvest. (WS) 13%

Montepulciano. Pale salmon. Strawberry fruit nose with a hint of spice. Not that long but credible, if only just. Zippy finish. A little bit banal, and more a white wine than a rosé. (WS) 12%

Montepulciano. Pale salmon. Quite vinous, almost like a red wine on the nose. Very high pitched, tart acidity, like the fruit was harvested before it was completely ripe in order to retain the acidity, because there is not a lot of fruit aroma on the finish. (WS) 13%

Posta della Casa, Pater 2012 IGP Puglia

Nero di Troia. Mid ruby with violet tinge. Sweet and beguiling raspberry and a little chalky. Almost intense raspberry and blueberry fruit with a load of stalky tannin on the finish, but that is Nero di Troia for you. Good length and grip. And certainly has the potential to age. Internationally moulded. (WS) 12.5%

Nero di Troia. Youthful violet tinged ruby. Interesting nose, and a little old fashioned, iron and orange. Full sweet attack and richness on the mid palate. Then quite tannic. Round and supple fruit framed by quite a mouthful of tannin. Ends just a little dry. (WS) 13.5%

Nero di Troia. Just mid ruby with violet tinges. Intense and sweet and just at the right side of overripeness. Rather obvious vanilla notes. Quite sweet vanilla and dark fruit but there is acidity too. A little too popularly moulded for my taste. (WS) 12.5%

Nero di Troia. Impenetrable deep crimson. Interesting but reluctant to open up. Genuinely different from the rest. Highish acidity cutting through a blueberry palate. Quite tannic but not dry. This will need a little age to really shine. (WS) 13%

Consultant is Luigi Moio. Mid ruby showing the first orange tinges. Red fruit and liquorice and just a touch of oak. Quite young and a little closed but there is depth. Compact muscular tannins, and complex fruit on the finish. Well made. (WS) 13.5%

Negroamaro. Deep ruby with the beginning of orange on the nose. Distinct iron and orange peel and balsamic cherry. Beginning of tobacco leaf. Sweet vanilla and red fruit with a lively spurt of acidity. Nose more original than the palate, but undeniably attractive and well balanced and juicy. (WS) 13%

90% Negroamaro, 10% Malvasia Nera. Impenetrable, almost blackish ruby. Compact and a little herbal, notes of capsicum and oak. Rich fruit impact and soft oak notes, and that sweet oak determines the finish. Consumer friendly, but on the verge of being overoaked. (WS) 14%

50% Negroamaro, 50% Primitivo. Primitivo used as softening agent for the tough Negroamaro tannins? Pretty much impenetrable dark ruby. Sweet rich fruit and just a little overripe. Quite dense and ripe with just enough acidity. Very forthcoming, and no surprises here. (WS) 14%

Negroamaro. Mid ruby and beginning to mature. Pronounced iron and very peppery on the nose, then huge oak impact. Rather dense on the palate, with the oak notes only interrupted by stalky tannins. Perhaps this may come round? Clumsy oak management. (WS)
