Wines from American fringes

I am keenly aware that, despite our West Coast editor Linda Murphy's best efforts, our coverage of American wines is woefully spotty. This is mainly because here in the UK we see a relatively meagre range of American wines.

Below is a tiny effort to improve our coverage with my notes on some unsolicited samples from the states of Virginia and Texas – not great wine exporters but producers of substantial volumes of wine.

Added to these are Julia's notes on wines from Texas and Georgia tasted as part of research for our big new grape book.
