Burgundy 2005 tasting notes

• 1 min read

See 2005 Burgundy – a sizzling market and my overview of what made the wines taste the way they do.

Our collection of well over 1,300 tasting notes on the 2005 burgundies, red and white, is our biggest vintage survey ever – even though since Burgundy is so complex with hundreds of producers, many producing dozens of wines, it is not of course exhaustive.

The notes are based on about 20 extensive tastings in London, mainly last week but also in September and November, and the week I spent tasting in growers’ cellars in Burgundy in early December. (It was notable, incidentally, that in the cases where I tasted the same wine both in December and January, the wines tended to taste better in the cellars in December. Partly doubtless because the samples were so fresh, but also probably because the wines are in the process of slowly closing down from their super-fruity infant state.)

Because there are so many tasting notes, presented by producer with whites before reds within producer, we have published them in seven different tranches, each with the same explanatory introduction. Here’s how to find your way round.

Burgundy 2005 tasting notes – A-B

Burgundy 2005 tasting notes – C-D

Burgundy 2005 tasting notes – E-G

Burgundy 2005 tasting notes – H-K

Burgundy 2005 tasting notes – L

Burgundy 2005 tasting notes – M-Q

Burgundy 2005 tasting notes – R-Z

We will of course do our best to get these notes into the tasting notes search database as soon as possible so that you can search them by appellation, colour, rank (you could put Grand Cru or Premier Cru in the search box) and minimum score but this will take a little time.
