About Il Torchio –

Torchio is a small family-run Ligurian winery, located in Castelnuovo Magra, in the province of La Spezia. The winery was founded by Giorgio Tendola, a true pioneer of the enhancement of the Colli di Luni, and, in particular, of the cultivation of Vermentino in this area. An important figure, who disappeared a few years ago, brought the new generations of the family, Gilda and Edoardo (his grandchildren) to reflect on an important decision: each continuing on their own way and leaving the estate to it's destiny, or continue to dedicate themselves to viticulture, carrying on and updating Giorgio's project. The decision, for the two brothers, was easy, especially as Edoardo was attending the university course in Viticulture and Oenology. Since 2012 the new generation has been holding the reins of the winery, enhancing the local indigenous grapes and dedicating themselves with commitment to exporting their wines out of Italy.

The Torchio has 12 hectares of land cultivated with vineyards, all of which are included within the DOC Colli di Luni. A peculiarity that distinguishes the winery is that the vineyards are all merged into a single plot, unique in Liguria, where many small parcels scattered here and there is the norm. The vineyards are exposed to the south-east and among the rows the absolute protagonist is Vermentino, flanked by Canaiolo, Merlot and Sangiovese. In the vineyard and in the cellar, the two brothers work hard, supported by serious professionals, with whom they decide the path of each wine working with Natural and Low Intervention methods.

Every year four different labels are produced, in which the Colli di Luni terroir is showcased: among these, Vermentino represents its best features. Bottles with bright colors and attractive packaging, to be tasted not only for the goodness of the product contained, but also to grow a project that, from the first steps, proves serious, virtuous and authoritative.

Special Thanks to Passione Vino for organising!
