Mick & Vick Priorat

Thursday 18th September walkabout Tasting with Mick & Vic

Priorat has seen a huge increase in quality over the last 10 years and, as part of his MW studies, Mick recently visited the area and was impressed with what he saw. We thought it was time to take a closer look at this bourgeoning region. This is a small wine appellation with 1700 ha of vines situated to the west of the province of Tarragona in Catalonia. The region is characterized by steep terraced vineyards and with vines planted up to 700m above sea level, and the landscape is reminiscent of the Douro Valley. Priorat is famed for its llicorella soils producing wines with complex mineral character. The region is planted with a wide variety of cultivars including the traditional Cariñena and Garnacha alongside Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. This tasting will explore the different types of terroir, varietals, and production methods, and the impact these factors have on the styles of wine produced.

We will taste 11 wines.
