Invitation to our next Tasting – Tuesday 20th November – The Winery W9

You are invited to our next tasting on Tuesday 20th November from 17.00-21.00h at our shop in Clifton Road W9.

Our line-up features new arrivals from Piedmont in Italy, the Rheingau and the Mosel in Germany and Toro in Spain.

We are just back with a full vanload from a week in Germany. Schloss Vaux’s sparkling Cuvee Vaux sold out very quickly when it arrived in June, so we picked up more.

We also picked-up some of the Kuhn’s delicious 2011 dry Rieslings.

To complete the German selection we will be showing a dry Riesling by Andreas Schmitges from the Erdnener Treppchen vineyard in the heart of the Middle Mosel.

We had a gruelling trip to Piedmont in northern Italy a few weeks ago. With nothing but Barolo and Porcini mushrooms to survive on, it’s a miracle we made it back! Back we are, with enough Barolo to survive on for a couple of months and a wonderful Nebbiolo by Gianfranco Alessandria.

Osvaldo Viberti, another of our favourite Barolo producers, was keen to show us his latest wine, his first white. Nascetta is a grape variety that had all but died out in the Phylloxera epidemic in the late 1800s. Until very recently there were just five or six growers in the village of Novello who still had some. Now there are a couple more, including Osvaldo. We will be tasting it tomorrow evening.

Those with decade long memories of The Winery's Spanish selection may remember a bright blue labelled wine by Vega Sauco from Toro. The label has changed but the wine within is still butch and untamed. Patricia Gil is now working side by side with her father, Wences Gil. The grape, known locally as Tinta de Toro, is Tempranillo. Tomorrow night we will be showing their Crianza.

Final red in the line-up is another of Philippe Laguduie's health-enhancing, life-lengthening Fronton wines, with their off-the-scale levels of polyphenols. We do hope you can join us and, as usual, feel free to bring a friend.

Our following tasting will be at The Winery on 10th December, when (fingers crossed) we will be joined by Mauro and Daniela Veglio who make Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo and a clutch of Barolo Crus in Annunziata, a part of La Morra.
