James Handford MW Vougeot Masterclass

Tuesday 19 February 2013

,

James’s tour of the Cote de Nuits brings us south to Vougeot. The walled Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is the perfect example of the complexity of modern day Burgundy thanks to the monks of the Citeaux who planted the vineyard in 1336. The village is something of an oddity as it is the smallest commune with the largest vineyard which, not surprisingly, provides a lot of variety over its 124 acres with over 80 owners and 6 soil types. The top examples however all share exquisitely pure velvety texture with intense concentration of rich red fruits.
We will taste 11 Vougeot Grand Crus including
Grivot 2001, George Mugner 1996, Meo Camuzet 2006,
Ann Gros 2003 Liger Belair 2007, Engel 2003, J Confuron Cotetidot 2005
