Languedoc Wines at The Victoria with Richard Hemming

Wednesday 4 June 2014

,

Join Richard Hemming for the next in our series of Sip n Supper events at 8pm on Wednesday 4th June at The Victoria in East Sheen.

“The Languedoc is currently one of the most exciting and evolving regions in Europe, attracting keen and passionate individuals with its potential,” The Wine Opus.

Richard Hemming will help you to discover some vinous gems from the Languedoc in the South of France. This stunning region is famous for producing some of the most original and dynamic wines, including superb quality and value reds, crisp whites, rich sparkling and luscious dessert wines. To complement Richard’s hand-picked selections will be three finely matched courses from chef Paul Merrett. This informal supper is aimed at anyone keen to learn about wine in an unstuffy environment, accompanied by great food (and some pretty lovely people).

Richard is part of a new generation of wine writers and educators. He contributes regular articles and tasting notes to JancisRobinson.com, and has been published by Decanter, The World of Fine Wine, The Financial Times and others. In addition to hosting wine events and judging awards, Richard is in the final stages of studying to become a Master of Wine.

Described by Food & Travel magazine as ‘a temple of good eating’, The Victoria has built up a loyal following since opening its doors in 2008. Chef and co-owner Paul Merrett has worked on several TV food series, including The Best and Economy Gastronomy with Allegra McEvedy, both for BBC2. He also makes regular appearances on GMTV and Saturday Kitchen. Paul has written three cookery books including, most recently, Spice Odyssey. The Victoria was named runner-up for Best Modern British Restaurant under £50 in the Harden’s London Restaurant Guide 2013.

The Languedoc appellation system was launched in 2007, and was updated in July 2010 to incorporate the new tiers of the ‘Grand Vins du Languedoc’ and the ‘Grand Crus du Languedoc’ which include top quality producing appellations such as Minervois La Livinière, Corbières Boutenac, Limoux, Picpoul de Pinet and Pic Saint Loup among others. The IGP Sud de France is an umbrella denomination and represents wines and producers from IGP Aude, IGP Gard and IGP Pays d’Herault.

Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. They cost £55 and include all food, wines, water, coffee and service. For more information or to book (no fees) use the contact form, or visit our Eventbrite page (booking fees apply).
