We invite you to experience the true "Magic of the Magnum Bubbles" in our exclusive Pop Up tasting of Growers Champagne and Premium Sparkling Wine. Join us on November 1st 2012 at 7pm at this exciting event in Geneva in an intimate environment!


Only at the beginning of the eighteenth century, glass-blowing was practised widely enough to provide bottles to transport wine, before that wine had been transported in barrels. Bottling wine allowed the wine to develop and age in new ways.

 
Magnum means "great" or "extra-large" in Latin, and in wine it refers to the 1,5l bottle size. The advantages of wine stored in magnum bottles are well known among wine experts : the wine ages better and develops complexities not possible in the smaller bottle size. This is particularly significant in Champagne (and ¨Méthode Traditionelle¨ Sparkling Wines) because Magnum is ideal size for the second fermentation in the bottle, however this format requires a lot more manual handling and hence it is rare. These are only some of the reasons why top Sparkling Wine in magnum size is always more expensive and exquisite than the ordinary 75cl bottle. 

Our tasting is limited to 20 people and the wines we will pour stand out by their individuality and are each a true expression of their unique terroir. Just like Magnum bottles, Growers Champagne is pretty rare, as the production is generally limited. We will pour 4 different Growers Champagnes from significantly different terroirs as well as 3 other premium sparkling terroir wines and will explain the different flavour profiles.
We have chosen the wines in function of their exclusive character, their approachability and ability to pair well with food. Each wine has a story to tell and we believe these terroir wines will allow you to discover a different dimension in sparkling wine especially when paired with our tantalizing food selection of oysters, iberic ham, foie gras, parmigiano reggiano, and other especially well matched appetisers.This is the other reason we want you to taste them from Magnum – as in this format the wines will really be at their brightest!!

This one of a kind tasting will take place in the center of Geneva just a few minutes from the Gare Cornavin or HEAD, and will be hosted by two naturally entertaining wine educators. Onneca and Caroline are both certified sommeliers, writers and wine consultants obsessed by sparkling wines and terroir. Caroline Henry is specializing in grower's Champagne and lives and works in Hautvillers, Champagne. Onneca Guelbenzu worked for several years in Penedes, the heart of the Cava district and lives and works in Switzerland.
