Red Wines of Italy, France, Spain and Portugal - East London
If you love red wine and want to taste some classics this is the tasting for you! This evening we’ll taker a closer look at what some people call Old World Wines. We'll head to France, Italy, Spain and Portugal, visiting some of the most famous wine regions such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, Chianti, Rioja and more. We’ll talk a bit about the grape varieties and what they taste like as well as the wine regions that they come from, consider their potential for food and wine matching and further hone your wine tasting skills. We'll also cover things like use of oak, find out which is better - cork or screw cap, and bust a few wine myths too! France - some people say the home of wine, such diverse climates from the sun baked South of the Languedoc to the cooler northerly region Bordeaux - home of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Do you know your left bank from your right bank? Why is vintage so important here.......what is vintage? Italy - what a country! It is huge and the wine regions so diverse, so many wines to explore, so little time! We're tasting just red wine on this event so maybe some Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Primitivo Nero D'Avola....so many great wines to choose from Spain - well we have to taste some Rioja and dive into the labelling here - what is the difference between Reserve and Grand Reserve. One of our favourites is the Priorat, its big and bold - delicious! Portugal - some say the new kid on the block but we're used to the rich, voluptuous Port, now if the time to try the wines! We'll be tasting 6 different wines this evening.
