Seafood Extravaganza Saturday 17th November 2012 – At The Oyster Shed on Mersea Island

November is of course time to make our seasonal pilgrimage to the home of what many consider to be the world’s finest oyster – Mersea Island, Colchester.

Our hugely popular Seafood Extravaganza is a celebration of the Colchester Native Oyster, probably the most renowned in epicurean circles, and provides a unique opportunity to taste them in a stunning new setting as close to their natural habitat as one can get.

The recently restored Oyster Sheds in West Mersea are now complete and we are delighted to hold thisevent in this beautiful setting on the edge of the Blackwater Estuary.

This is the perfect backdrop to an unforgettable event – a celebration fine food and wine. We therefore have a fantastic new walk (optional and just less than two miles in length), which as regular attendees will know, takes place just after you arrive on the Island.

We will start at the sea wall just after the Strood and walk to West Mersea, taking in the fresh sea air and stunningly beautiful scenery, the ideal way to work up an appetite.

Upon your arrival at the new Oyster Sheds, you will be greeted with a glass of Champagne, before a four-course seafood luncheon is served accompanied by a top-flight selection of wines.

The Seafood Extravaganza is the signature event in our calendar – and we are delighted that so many customers travel from all over the country to join us for what is always a hugely enjoyable event.

Early booking is of course very strongly advised.

Seafood Extravaganza At The Oyster Sheds, Mersea Island Guests will travel by coach to and from the venue 10.45 for 11.15am at The Wine Company, Carriages 5.30pm from The Wine Company Smart Casual (country footwear strongly advised for the optional walk) Champagne aperitif and fine wine luncheon £125 per person

  • Colchester Native oysters or City smoked salmon
  • Seafood buffet including: lobster, dressed crab, langoustine, Mediterranean prawns, scallops in the half shell, cockles, clams and mussels
  • mixed cheese board with roasted figs and biscuits
