Selosse: Champagne Rebel
Thursday 21 March 2013
,
Unlike many pioneers, Anselme Selosse hasn’t made his wine in an undiscovered region or applied new techniques to terroir in decline. He stood up to the biggest brands in one of the most commoditised places in the wine world and in the process he sparked a movement that has fundamentally changed the commercial landscape of Champagne. His wines are unique, very difficult to find and incredibly expensive – but they represent some of the most important developments and innovations seen in Champagne for generations.
Selosse – as the leader of Champagne’s ‘grower’ movement – was the first to dramatically and intentionally reduce yields, one of the early proponents of low-to-no dosage and the pioneer of using a solera system. These developments, in addition to a number of other practices in the vineyard and winery, result in wines of incredible richness and complexity. They are the most individual Champagnes you are likely to taste and we have waited for a long time to collect the various cuvees for a comprehensive tasting of this compelling estate.
We will taste a variety of Selosse’s wines, including Version Originale, Initial, Exquise, Substance, Contraste, Bout du Clos, Les Carelles, Cote Faron and the Rosé.
