Our friend and WSET tutor, Quentin Sadler, recently was invited out to Northern Portugal to the exciting vinous region of Vinho Verde where he discovered a whole host of fantastic wines and wants to share them with you all!

Vinho Verde is a traditional white wine produced in the cool, Atlantic-influenced region of Minho in the north of Portugal. It is known to be best enjoyed young (Vinho Verde translates to 'Young Wine'), it is dry and refreshing often with a slight spritz. However, there is a greater diversity to this classic wine emerging in the UK market, with various styles of whites, roses and even reds with full sparkling styles 'espumante.' The tasting will discover all of these styles in perfect time for our usual Indian Summer – the only Summers we seem to have of late!

Wines on Tasting (8):

  • Quinta Pigarra Espumante (Sparkling)
  • Aveleda Vinho Verde
  • Quinta de Gomariz Loureiro
  • Condes de Barcelos Vinhão
  • Sogrape Morgadio da Torre Alvarinho White 2011
  • Vinusoalleirus Soalheiro Alvarinho Reserva
  • Quinta das Arcas Arca Nova Espadeiro Rosé
  • Mário Bernardo Casa da Tojeira Vinho Regional Minho Tenente Bernardo

The tasting will discover 3 different Alvarinhos (Albarino from Spain), including a sparkling, a classic Vinho Verde, a typical red Vinho Verde, one of the great unsung grapes of the region 'Loreiro' and a new wave red...forget your preconceptions and celebrate this lovely wine region that is just made for summer!
