Rhône 2023 – a guide

A guide to our coverage of vintage 2023 in the Rhône Valley. Above, the Rhône viewed from vineyards in Ampuis (courtesy of Inter Rhône).

This year, not one but two Masters of Wine have been tasting the nascent wines of the Rhône Valley in situ, on behalf of our members. James Lawther MW concentrated on the heartlands of Syrah and Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne in the north of the valley, between Vienne and Valence, and we have now published his assessment of the vintage there. Then on 18 November, Alistair Cooper MW will begin his reports on how a more varied palette of grape varieties fared between Montélimar and Avignon, in the south of the valley.
