Qian Janice Wang MW is the latest to earn the MW title, becoming the only MW currently based in Denmark. Janice joins Jit Hang Jackie Ang MW (Singapore), Amanda Barnes MW (Argentina), Sarah Benson MW (UK) and Kathleen Van den Berghe (Belgium) to complete the 2025 vintage of Masters of Wine.
There are now 418 active MWs based in 29 countries, representing the breadth of the wine industry and each making their own contribution to advancing the art, science and business of wine.
Janice is an associate professor in the Department of Food Science at the University of Copenhagen and the first MW residing in Denmark. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on multisensory flavour perception and eating behaviour, aiming to understand why people make the food choices they do and to promote behaviour change for healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.
Janice holds a DPhil in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford, an MS in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT, and a BS in Computer Science from Caltech. She is passionate about bridging the gap between research and industry, aiming to conduct more widespread and impactful wine research as an MW.
One of her proudest wine moments is leading Oxford to victory against Cambridge in the varsity blind tasting competition (twice).
Research paper: Communicating acidity: Investigating the relationship between language use, chemical composition, and temporal sensory perception of Riesling and Chenin Blanc.
