Dornfelder

Germany's most successful red crossing, making juicy, deeply coloured reds, particularly in Pfalz and Rheinhessen. It is easier to grow and ripen than Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Portugieser or Lemberger, and can also yield heavily. Understandably, it is relatively popular with German vine-growers even if it is not as fashionable with consumers as Pinot Noir.
