Illegal additives suspected in some Italian Sauvignons
It is not all methoxypyrazines in Friuli’s Sauvignon Blanc, it seems. On 5 September the Udine district attorney began an investigation into alleged illegal additives in the Sauvignon Blanc wines of no fewer than 17 producers, who, unusually considering Italy’s strict privacy laws, have been named. Most are in Friuli but one is based in Abruzzo and one in Umbria. The first to publish anything about the investigation, on 10 September, was Il Piccolo, a local Friulian newspaper with an online presence.
