Jean-Michel Cazes buys into the Languedoc
Although officially retired, Jean-Michel Cazes seems as active as ever. Recently elected Decanter Man of the Year, he has acquired a substantial and potentially interesting vineyard holding around La Livinière, the most acclaimed part of the Minervois appellation north-east of Carcassonne. It can only benefit this beautiful but unsophisticated region to have more heavy hitters from the mainstream wine world show their belief in its potential. (Shame a faction in Aniane near Mas de Daumas Gassac and Domaine Grange des Pères rejected Mondavi and now seem to be threatening to do the same to actor Gérard Depardieu.) Here's his report...
