We're media pioneers, apparently!

We are thrilled to announce that JancisRobinson.com has been shortlisted for this year's Media Pioneer Awards. These awards are designed to 'celebrate innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among specialist media owners'. It would seem that I am a specialist media owner, which makes me feel much more of an oligarch than I have ever felt before.

You can read more about this honour, our fellow shortisted entities, and how we are seen from the outside in the world of those analysing online communication here.

The 2011 winners of these Awards will be announced at the UK Specialist Media Show on 25 May but, quite honestly, it is thrilling and surprising enough simply to be shortlisted.

That said, I found myself at a small dinner on Friday (over some excessively senior South African Viognier) sitting next to Albert Scardino, husband of one of Britain's shamefully few female CEOs of a FTSE 100 company, in fact Pearson, the company that owns the FT. I was very flattered by just how much he knew about and admired this website.

Perhaps we really are becoming rather mainstream? Thank you all for visiting and thank you particularly, Purple pagers, who are more numerous than ever. Last week we had a record number of visits. I'm  not sure whether this was because of interest in our ballooning number of Burgundy 2009 tasting notes or the Burgundy picture quiz

Please keep visiting.  Our tally of Burgundy 2009 tasting notes will continue to grow over the next two weeks and I will be publishing my overview of reds then whites on the next two Saturdays.
