IMW Annual Claret Tasting Vintage 2011
Tuesday 3 November 2015
,
The wonderful 2009 and 2010 vintages in Bordeaux were always going to be a hard act to follow, and the weather duly arrived in earnest in 2011, with heat, drought and heavy rainfall all contributing to a growing season the Bordelais would describe as “compliqué”.
The defining feature was in fact the cool weather in July and August which meant that ripening was late and uneven. However, there is no doubt that the Châteaux that could afford rigorous sorting (which should include all the Grands Crus Classés featured in this tasting) have made some good wines and, although they were not always easy to taste to begin with, there are signs that they are opening up.
Now is an ideal time to reappraise the vintage and see how the wines are developing in the context of a market where there appear be some very well priced 2011’s on merchants’ lists.
There will be an opportunity to taste the wines both blind and with labels showing, except for the First Growths.
The tasting will be split into two sessions:
1st Session 9:45am-11:30am
2nd Session 11:45am – 2:45pm
Please not that those attending the 11:30am session will not be admitted before that time.
