La Chapelle Hermitage Vertical 1979-2005 at West London Wine School

Wednesday 15 June 2016

,

The name of Hermitage La Chapelle is linked to the little chapel of Saint-Christophe, which overlooks the terraced vineyards along the Rhône. Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné has been the sole owner since 1919 and has crafted some of the most complex expressions of Hermitage from the superb Syrah grape variety. This fascinating evening will discover three distinct eras of La Chapelle; the first focussing on the legendary wines of the 1970s and 1980s, the second on the transitional period surrounding the death of the owner Gerard Jaboulet in 1997 and the third since the Frey family takeover in 2005.

Jaboulet has one of the longest histories of any winery or negociant in the world. Originally founded in 1834 by Antione Jaboulet in the Northern Rhone Valley, the company is currently owned by the Frey family (since 2006) who count numerous wine properties in their holdings. In Bordeaux, they own Chateau La Lagune. In the Rhone valley, they have holdings in Chateauneuf du Pape, Cornas, Crozes Hermitage and Cotes du Rhone.

Vintages on Tasting; 2006, 2005, 2000, 1999, 1996, 1995, 1988, 1983, 1982, 1979
