Monthly Tasting at The Winery
Wednesday 7 September 2016
,
You are invited to our next tasting on Wednesday 7th September from 17.00-21.00h at our shop in Clifton Road W9. It’ll be a wide-ranging tasting, featuring Prosecco, white Burgundy, two dry Rieslings and one Pinot Noir from Germany, and reds from Tuscany and Sicily.
After kicking-off with Marsuret’s Prosecco Saia from Valdobbiadene in northern Italy, we’ll be tasting classy white Burgundy; a seriously stylish Saint-Veran by Thierry and Charles Drouin, the father and son team who live and work in the remarkable amphitheatre-shaped vineyards between the primal rocks of Vergisson and Solutre near Macon.

Victoriaberg is back! You can’t miss Queen Victoria’s favourite wine, – it’s the one with the flamboyant Victorian label – made since 2010 by Reiner Flick, one of our favourite growers in the Rheingau.

Second dry Riesling in Wednesday’s line-up will be Schieferboden 2012, a mineral-infused bottling from slate vineyards in the Nahe by von Racknitz, from a stash recently unearthed in our cellar.

First up in our red line-up will be a delicious, no-nonsense Chianti by Dreolino from Rufina, northeast of Florence.

When we were in Germany a few weeks ago, we went east to Franken, to visit, taste and scoop up some of Christophe Walter’s elegant, refined Spatburgunders.

Finally, from Sicily, Mimmo Paone (the man with the bone-crunching handshake) is well-known at The Winery for his “Funnari” Nero d’Avola. More will arrive during Autumn. On Wednesday, we will show the next one up in his range, Mamertino di Milazzo – Nero d’Avola with a splash of Nocera.
