Chardonnay is arguably the varietal that Australia is best at currently. At least, to palates raised on wines produced outside Australia, particularly European wines, I would submit that the best Australian Chardonnays most obviously and usefully fill a gap, notably the gap left by the as yet unsolved problem of premature oxidation in white burgundies.
