Chardonnay is arguably the varietal that Australia is best at currently. At least, to palates raised on wines produced outside Australia, particularly European wines, I would submit that the best Australian Chardonnays most obviously and usefully fill a gap, notably the gap left by the as yet unsolved problem of premature oxidation in white burgundies. We have already alerted Purple Pagers to the dramatic upgrade and refinement of wines made from Australia's most planted white wine grape.
