Early last summer I was in Santa Barbara County heading west on Highway 246 in the Sta Rita Hills, driving through a slowly receding fog bank to an appointment I was late for at the winery known as The Hilt. Eight miles out it occurred to me to ask them if any of their estate vineyards – Radian, Bentrock and Puerta del Mar – was the westernmost in the region.
