The two very best times of the year to visit Jerez in Andalucia, southern Spain, are June and early October, I learnt while standing at the bar of La Carboná restaurant, in the heart of this atmospheric city. According to my informant Eduardo Ojeda, who has been in the sherry business all his life and is a partner with Jesús Barquín in the wonderful, small-production La Bota sherries, June is just before the heat of the summer grips the city. October is when Jerez still clings on to warm days...
