The most recent updates to JancisRobinson.com focused on adding more functionality to our tasting-notes interface. Several new features have been introduced, which we hope are intuitive but which nevertheless deserve explanation in full.
The tasting-notes landing page now has a tag cloud (see right) and a country ranking. The tag cloud shows the most popular terms currently being searched for, while the country ranking monitors which countries' tasting notes have the highest average score (France is the country most widely represented in our 100,000-plus-strong database and therefore struggles to reach the top of our ranking). Each term in the tag cloud is a link, so by clicking on it you can see the results for that term. Also, in the top right corner of the page is a drop down menu allowing you to toggle time frames between most recent (calculated from the beginning of the previous week) and all-time results.
As part of the search function within our tasting-note database, we've now added a comparison option. This allows you to select several tasting notes and view them in a different table, allowing you to compare various tasting notes together, as shown in the short video below. The site will remember which tasting notes you want to compare until you deselect them, which you can do by clicking the compare icon again.
We've also added more detail to individual tasting-note pages, including the top three wines from that producer, the average producer score and the top five wines from that tasting article (if the note was part of an article).
