Those '50 best' restaurants

This is not a great night for eating out in famous restaurants around the world. An extraordinary proportion of their chefs and managers will have converged on London for what is effectively an international get-together and awards ceremony, and those left behind in the kitchen may be a bit distracted anyway.

For what it's worth (not much according to Mr N Lander), the San Pellegrino list of the top 50 restaurants in the world was announced earlier this evening. Nick declined his invitation to The Guildhall in favour of a family dinner at which bitter herbs and hard boiled eggs in salt water were served, but here is this year's list as tweeted by, as far as I can make out, the San Francisco Chronicle(!), with movement since last year's list in brackets.

Bear in mind that this list is compiled by local juries of varying merit. Here is Nick's view of the voting process as published on this site in 2007, seconded recently in the New York Times here.
