Wagner-Stempel, Siefersheimer Höllberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2020 Rheinhessen
Grown in the oldest parcels of the Höllberg on extremely stony gravel and clay soils with overlying porphyry rock. Raised in stainless-steel tank and traditional large and medium-sized barrels of German oak.
More approachable than its cool, austere sibling, the Höllberg opens with ripe orchard-fruit aromas of peach and apple shaped by an elegant thread of candied ginger that continues on through the concentrated palate and into the long, balanced and saline finish. Incredible, nearly pulsating spice. The 250-million-year-old volcanic soil lends the wine an intense power as it digs down never out. Despite its expressiveness, this is a Riesling whose time is yet to come. (PS)
