4 week Online Wine Course
COVID-19 has been a major headache for importers who sell most of their wines to restaurants and hotels. But it didn’t take long for the canny ones to realise that there were other ways of getting their wares out to wine lovers. We’ve teamed up with one of the brightest and best of these to put together a fabulous new 4-week online course. The result is four evenings of wine tasting in which you’ll have the chance to try some fascinating wines that you’ll hardly ever see on the shop shelves at very keen prices. We'll try three wines each session - the normal  retail price for the 12 wines we’ll be tasting would be £255, but for this course, you can have them delivered to your door for just £145. More details are below. Week 1 - Friday May 22nd We’re starting in Australia, but not with Shiraz and Chardonnay. Those who are familiar with Aussie wine will have spotted an extensive Italian influence, as evidenced by producers with names like De Bortoli, Maglieri and Scarpantoni. But there’s also a growing interest in Italian grapes themselves. So join us for a look at how well three styles from northern Italy – two red and one sparkling – transfer to the climes of Down Under. Week 2 - Friday May 29th If you’ve not discovered the joys of Chenin Blanc from South Africa, you’re missing out on a treat. There’s plenty of it planted in the Cape, and many of the vineyards are of low-yielding old vines that result in some of the country’s top white wines. One of the whites we’ll try for this session is 100% Chenin, while the other two are blends, one with Clairette, and the other with Marsanne and Grenache Blanc. Week 3 - Friday June 5th The most consistent wine country in Europe? Austria can stake a very convincing claim. This is a country that rarely bothers with the cheap and not-so-cheerful end of the market, instead preferring to focus on quality wines using a mixture of grapes in which home-grown talent rubs shoulders with more famous varieties. Both whites and reds deserve attention: the trio we’ll try for this tasting will show you why Week 4 - Friday June 12th We lovely the way in which rosé has been transformed from a frothy and frivolous afterthought to reds and whites into a genuinely interesting wine category. The line-up for this session includes a pale and interesting French rosé that isn’t from Provence, a Portuguese pink from a region more usually associated with summer holidays (remember them?) and a fascinating wine from a high-altitude (850m) vineyard in Turkey. The normal  retail price for the 12 wines we’ll be tasting would be £255, but for this course, you can have them delivered to your door for just £145. Book your online access below and we will send instructions on how to join the meeting through the Zoom platform from a desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile phone. The session will being at 8pm and last around an hour. You only need to try a small sample of each of the 3 wines – we’ll be giving you tips for how to keep the opened bottles in good condition for another day.
