Coche-Dury – The Vertical

Thursday 7 November 2013

,

‘King of Meursault’ and ‘the best winemaker in Burgundy’ are just two expressions coined to describe the legendary J.F Coche Dury. Founded in 1920, Jean Francois took over the domain in the mid 1970’s. Famed for the wallet sapping Corton-Charlemagnes and 1er Cru Meursault’s, Coche Dury typifies how painstaking, almost obsessive work in the vineyard and winery can elevate a winery to cult status around the world.

We would love to put on a tasting of JFC’s most prestigious wines, but this would involve the re-mortgaging of many houses, so we have assembled a killer line up of vintages of his village Meursault, which is often compared to the Grand Cru wines of lesser producers. This tasting provides an amazing opportunity to discover the personality behind the Meursaults of Coche-Dury.

We will be tasting the following vintages: 2010, 2009, 2007, 2003, 2002, 1998, 1996, 1994, 1990

*We all know that premature-oxidation is potentially a problem with some of the wines in this lineup. Coche-Dury has a very good record on this front relative to other wineries, but there is always the chance that we will have an affected bottle.
