We’re tasting 3 different wines each evening and learning a little bit about the history of wine from that country. We’ve chosen the wines we (Neil and Sam your hosts for this event) will be tasting and, where we can made use of the current discount at Waitrose – please check the website, some are cheaper than show below. Of course, you don’t have to buy all the wines and you don’t have to go to Waitrose but who doesn’t love a bargain? So, a little bit of history, some delicious red wine and lots of fun all via Zoom. Week 2 - 13th November – Red Wine of Australia Australia is currently the seventh largest wine manufacturer in the world, producing more than 1000 million litres of wine every year – but where did it all start? It all traces back to its settlement in 1788. Governor Arthur Phillip brought vines with him on the First Fleet, and numerous vineyards were established in the area that is now Sydney. Until the 1950s, Australia primarily produced fortified wines. In the latter part of the 60s, full-bodied reds came into vogue. Find out why these wines were so popular.
