López de Heredia – The Vertical

Thursday 14 November 2013

,

While new trends have been and gone, winemaking styles changed and experimented with, one bodega has not changed a thing. López de Heredia has stayed consistently at the top of their game since the early 1900’s, refusing to be buffeted around on the winds of fashion. Unlike most Rioja wineries, López de Heredia owns every single vine that produces its wine. It is this long heritage of commitment to quality that brings wine lovers, professionals and Rioja experts together for one of the wine world’s greatest estates. When we were offered a tiny parcel of the ‘Tondonia’ Reserva back to the 1930’s, we knew a vertical tasting was the only way to really understand the wine behind the label.

We will taste the vintages 1987 and 1991 of Rioja Gran Reserva Blanco, Viña Tondonia, as well as the following vintages of Rioja Reserva, Viña Tondonia: 1934, 1961, 1964, 1970, 1973, 1982, 2001
