Online Tasting: The delights of Vouvray with Peter Hahn & Tania and Vincent Careme
Wow! What an evening… perhaps the white wine tasting highlight of the summer. Vouvray at it’s very finest. In a VERY special evening we welcome the charismatic Peter Hahn of Clos de la Meslerie and the wonderful Tania and Vincent Careme of Domaine Careme joined by wine school founder and Chenin Blanc fanatic Jimmy Smith. Jimmy has been visiting both estates now for over ten years and has become very good friends with them (the Careme sparkling wine was a feature of Jimmy’s wedding back in 2016) and what’s more the Hahns and the Caremes are the best of friends. You will learn completely about the history of both producers, the Vouvray appellation, Chenin Blanc and so much more. This unmissable evening will include a tasting of six 75ml samples from truly stunning wines from both estates dug out from Jimmy’s cellar. Some very rare bottles..  Wines on Tasting

  • Careme Le Clos Sec 2018
  • Careme Le Clos Sec 2011
  • Clos de la Meslerie Sec 2017

Peter Hahn – Clos de la Meslerie For those of you who are not familiar with Peter’s wines, he makes very small quantities (a few thousand bottles only) of hand crafted, organic Vouvray using wild yeasts and no intervention in the winery. His estate is in Vernou sur Brenne just east of the village of Vouvray and he has 4 small parcels that surround his lovely home, on each major point of the compass. Jimmy has collected his wines since the beginning in 2009. Domaine Careme Vincent and Tania Carême are young and dynamic Vouvray vignerons who set their domaine from scratch in 1999. His is not a family business – his parents are cereal farmers – but his rise to prominence has been nothing short of meteoric. The estate makes the full range of wines: sparkling, sec, demi-sec and moelleux and he uses organic methods across his vines, with the 14 hectares of vines used to produce his domaine wines being certified. Jimmy has been collecting their wines since 2008 at the inception of the West London Wine School.
