ONLINE TASTING - La Dolce Vita A journey through Italy

If your summer holiday plans included soaking in the Adriatic sunshine, or take in the cultural delights of Florence, or - if you're the energetic type - tramping through the Dolomites, you may currently be feeling more than a little formaggio'd off. May we then invite you to partake of a little Italian Dolce Vita from the comfort of your own home with our latest online tasting. The ancient Greeks called Italy 'Oenotria' - the land of wine - and in each of the 20 provinces, you'll find wonderful and wonderfully diverse selection of wines of all colours - this after all is a country that claims to have over 1,000 different grape varieties... No, we won't be trying examples of each of them, but we will be hoping to whet your appetites with a couple of Italian charmers from opposite ends of the country. Our white comes from Campania, home of Mount Vesuvius, and is made from the Greco grape. We may be in the sunny south of Italy, but this is a crisp, fragrant wine that feels as if it comes from somewhere slightly chillier. Its red companion hails from the hills north of Venice and east of Lake Garda. Valpolicella Ripasso is a super-charged version of regular Valpol which is rich, fruity and almost a meal in itself. I would recommend buying in advance:

• 1 bottle of Italian Greco (Sainisbury's Tesco & Morrisons do own-label versions of Greco di Tufo or Greco Beneventano, while Waitrose has the Tre Fiori label) 
• 1 bottle of Valpolicella Ripasso (most supermarkets do an own-label bottling).
