A Question of Semillon with Rikus Neethling
Join West London Wine School for a special single-evening tasting with cult Western Cape winemaker Rikus Neethling, to showcase his inaugural release of his single variety Semillon wines. This tasting is perfect for anyone who loves Semillon or who wants to learn more about this versatile grape variety. The Brand and the Man - Rikus Neethling The word ‘Bizoe’ is derived from the French word ‘Bisous’, meaning little kiss, and is the creation of vintner Rikus Neethling. ‘Less is more’ is at the forefront of his vinification and viticulture philosophy allowing the production of high quality wines from the best selected grapes at his cellar in Croydon, Stellenbosch. The location in the Western Cape with blue skies and majestic mountain backdrops provides the perfect setting for Rikus to combine both his passion and knowledge for wine and South Africa. As a result, his handcrafted wines are a true reflection of the terroirs as well as the individual. The Tasting Rikus Neethling has a passion for the Sémillon grape (now his signature variety), fuelled by a visit to Australia’s Hunter Valley, where he found many of the region’s vines were originally cuttings from South Africa. He studied the techniques used to produce the top Hunter Valley Sémillons - built to age for many decades - and brought the principals back to the Western Cape to launch his exciting new single variety Semillon project. Rikus will discuss his passion for the Sémillon grape and showcase his new limited production Sémillon cuvées; Robertsvleipad, Kruispad and Morningstar. With just a few hundred bottles of each wine available to the UK market, a unique chance to taste South Africa’s answer to Vat 1 Sémillon! Tasting Date: Friday 12th June 2020 at 6:30pm (the tasting will last approximately 1-1.5 hours) TASTING STRUCTURE AND FORMAT: Rikus Neethling and West London Wine School Chief Tutor Jimmy Smith will host this online tasting live at 6:30pm on Friday 12th June at 6:30pm. This single-evening tasting session will be approximately 1 - 1.5 hours in length.  Unable to commit on the evening? No problem! Anyone registered for this course will gain access to the video recordings of each tasting session, so you can always revisit any of these at anytime in the future - whether its because you missed participating in the live evening or if you want to revisit the presentation at a later date. On the night, Rikus and Jimmy will also be tasting four wines that are representative of the styles discussed during that evening's tasting. A case of each wine covered throughout the tasting (4 bottles) will be available to order for anyone registered to attend the course, so if you'd like, you can also purchase and enjoy the wines with Jimmy (or at a later date).
