Eugenio Collavini, Turian Schioppettino 2015 Friuli Colli Orientali

17

Full bottle 1,346 g. Also called Ribolla Nera. Hand-picked and then dried on mats in lofts (the notes don't say how long for). Destemmed, fermented on skins for three weeks. 18 months in Allier French oak barriques.
Fabulous summer-pudding aromas! This reminds me, instantly, of my eight-year-old goddaughter when she races across the lawn to throw her wiry legs and arms around me to give me a huge hug. I could not agree with Luigi Collavini more when he describes this wine as tasting of coffee, spice and pepper. But the fruit is just scrumptious. A wine that is expressive, alive, and as full of fingered-pages, rollicking words, ink and sketch and anticipation as a much-loved storybook. (TC)
