Fox Run, Doyle Family Vineyard Chardonnay 2020 Finger Lakes
Tasted from a 10-cl mini sample bottle. They use eco-friendly lightweight bottle with screw cap. Peter Bell points out that ‘this is a price-point wine’ and that there is some Traminer in the blend ‘to bring a little bit of fruit salad into the wine’. No oak, no malo, no lees. Steep slopes and lots and lots of afternoon sun on this vineyard. Their best-selling wine, ‘mostly based on the fact that it is clean and non-cerebral, and the price, of course’. TA 6.9 g/l, pH 3.28, RS 0 g/l.
I see what he means about ‘fruit salad’. It’s a great quaffer in terms of a simple white wine, but in its defence it is dry, sparse, crisp and you absolutely cannot argue with the price. (TC)
